Remembrance Day 2024
On Monday 11th November 2024, Chulmleigh College came together to mark Remembrance Day. Staff and pupils assembled outside to observe a two minute silence, as we always do.
This year is particularly poignant as The Trust has recently been asked to be custodian of George Joce’s First World War medal. Scores of men were killed during that war, from this area. George was a dairyman and was part of a well known family from Chulmleigh. His death is poignant particularly because he lost his life on 11th November 1918.
The First World War ended 106 years ago, but it and other wars are still relevant today.
Thank you to Harry Lewis and Mr Miners for playing the last post so beautifully, and to Head Boy, Harrison Jordan, and Head Girl, Francesca Trimming, for reading the poem 'Last Post' by Carol Ann Duffy, so eloquently. We thought this poem was particularly appropriate this year. It was written to remember the generation of men who fought in World War 1 because even the survivors of the war are gone.
